Ferox is a tape saturation modeller.
It has separate controls for saturation and hysteresis effects. Feedback with variable tape speed is provided to simulate vintage tape echos.

Awesome used on string instruments! Full, rich, analog-type saturation! And free! What's not to like?

This one is totally awesome. And not a 40 MB plug. I like the analog/digital meters. Recording high and lower the output, gives the ferrite an insane magnetic shock. :)
Did you get this to work in 64 bit daw?

I own several tape sims, and this allows me to dial in era-perfect mid 60s garage rock feel and tone. The tape speed is adjustable freely, from very ridiculously slow to what I suppose could be 30 ips, but maybe it's 15. The slower end of the range gets you low and lowish-fi harmonically happening sound characteristics. The only other tape sim I've paid for which is similarly useful, is Audio Thing "Reels", which isn't a model of a studio tape rig, but a 60s consumer tape recorder, so it's more of a novelty or effect, but I've had good results using it. It's modeled on consumer small scale reel tape, which may have been about double or triple the width of cassette tape, and speeds were about 3 1/2 ips and about 1 1/8 ips , switchable between those 2 speeds and 3 formulations of tape. But Ferox is even better, and you can jack with tape alignment and a couple of other arcane controls, with which you can arrive at excellent "almost terrible in a good way" sound characteristics. It's the realest-sounding tape sim there is, imo and in my experience. While showing someone songs I've recorded, there have been a couple of times where I had to repeat myself, explaining to peeps, "No, this isn't from the 60s; this is me last week", and they initially didn't believe me. That's how good and authentic-sounding Ferox is. IDK whether there's a manual, but I'm not sure what a couple of the controls do. I THINK one of them switches between 2 tape types.

Perfect to color and reduce dynamic range (instead of compressor): natural compression !
Awesome plugin

Simple, very vorgiving and oh boy warm, perfect for adding "glue" or vintage character. Truely one of the best Tape saturation VSTs I've tried in a loooong time! And I can't believe it's free! 1000x thanks Jeroen!

I think it's about 14 years old and as far as tape machine emulations go, it hasn't been beaten yet by anyone.

I have used this for over a decade now I think ......... a tiny bit goes a long way ... truly awesome free plug in. Thank you Jerome.

As the others say .... this is an amazing free plug in. Gives gentle warmth or crazy distortion, with deakys !

I had this one for years, it's really old but stands the test of time. Very useful on all sorts of signals. Doesn't wash out the audio like many other plugs do. Nice for srums, just turn up recording level that's all. It adds something you can't hear much but completes the drum sound.

I would say this is my most used plugin. Drums, vocals, banjo, bass...even soft synths and vst organs that sound too dry or even too hi-fi. I've used it in vst winds with great results as well. The hysterisis ecxites the high frequencies, the saturation adds harmonic distortion..the filter shape wonderfully.... the only possible criticism is the large increments on the knobs to hear a discernable difference. When you hear it though, it's the missing element.

Very close to authentic but missing something like all analog emulations do. Still is better than most others.

Super plugin, love it

Plugins can be a pain in the butt to keep track of over time when mixes no longer work cause I can't find that one plugin. Well, this particular plugin is one that I would be really sad if it disappeared from the internet. Vst4free.com is an important site for that, and Ferox is an important plugin.

This little baby is really good at rounding off all the digital edges and adding noise. I purchased the Tone Booster, Track Essentials, which contains a similar product called TB Ferox (same developer), but I prefer this one. Thanks.

One of my favorite plugins. It is great for saturation, but it is also a fantastic analog delay.

I thought this was gone for good. Looking forward to test this one!

Best for saturation... I love it makes everything sound more pro..=)

Holy hell. Simply the best tape saturation VST out there. Can't believe it's free. Brings out LUSH harmonics. Use it sparingly on my drum buss. But I drive it during the mastering process and reign it in with a limiter. Has changed my mixes in a serious way.

This is an excellent vst, I am still checking it out but I have to say right on.
