Chimera

Chimera is an experimental synth that uses subtractive synthesis in a new way.

White noise is sent through a series of narrow bandpass filters which are controlled by pitch. The filtered noise is used as resonant sinewaves to create pads, atmospheres, organs and percussive sounds. In other words, everything you hear from Chimera is white noise being filtered into music - in realtime.

A very interesting synthesis, standing out among the many equally sounding. For me it is perfect for my atmospheric lines dark ambient themes.

Extremely creative concept! It would be great if the attack time could be made shorter.

I wish there is 64-bit version. I so adore it. It gives totally different taste to my music. I love you Majken!

Amazing synth for harsh and gentle noises. If you're looking for synths similar to Chimera, check out Noisetar by NUSofting it is for Windows and Mac OS in 32-/64-bit VST/AU.

I have been producing trip hop, with slower funk beats. This synth being dry works into tracks very well. The pink noise carries the ambiance very well, also after the track have been rendered to wav from midi, they cut and paste very good throughout the tracker. I have done some really trippy noise with this. And it's a sound not commonly heard in EDM or electronica.

I'm new to the whole VST scene and I only have Darkwave to use. So far I've only found one VST that didn't come with the program that it will recognize. I am fucking anxious to try this Chimera program but it won't jive for whatever reason. Can SOMEONE please give me some ideas on how to successfully run this and maybe a few others using Darkwave? Thanks...

My tip would be.. Download LMMS and use that for VST plugins - if you are a "beginner".

Moon, I am using Darkwave and have no problems with it. How many plugins do you have in your VST folder? I have noticed that when you have a ton, sometimes only part of them load (from my experience, keep it under 200 MBs). I don't know if simply linking another folder within the program settings avoids this issue. I have my folder down to a select 50 plugins and am fine. P.S. Chimera is a fine VST.

Very interesting VST. At first you might think it's a bit dry but when you realize it's only made using filtered noise you'll be amazed. It really is a pretty good synth if you can find a purpose for it. Definitely good for those "radiation-type-movie-soundtracks" and ambient tracks.

A superb synth. I have been looking for a synth that makes great ambient pads for ages but most that I have found tend towards new age cheesiness, this has a much darker feel. Excellent.

I don't like it much... it's not bad but it's like... dry, like someone else said. I have to add to much reverb and modulation just to make it sound worth something.

I wrote some very sombre music with this. I made crusty ash covered horns and an organ with tear stained keys. An ethereal gothic workhorse.

Brilliantly easy to use. CLear interface, meshed effortlessly with Ableton. Nice work, I especially like its capacity to make ragged atmospherics without sounding soundtracky. Does that make sense? Anyway- very much like this, many thanks.

One of the nicer VST instruments that I've tried in a long time. The white noise allows for sounds which blend into each other.
