Hello. When I click on "License Request File.html" it takes me to "This site can’t be reached". I guess they've updated the website and search doesn't get any meaningful results. Any workarounds?
Can someone post the activation file please, since it's free, I don't see a problem with it. Unable to activate or request activation file, Novation have taken it off their website completely. Thanks
Hey Benny... there is no general activation code for the plugin. It is different for every computer. The activation code is also not in the form of a code with numbers or letters. If I remember correctly, a second file is generated after the installation (in the same folder as the download). It is a browser file e.g. Firefox, or Edge depending on what browser you use. When you have installed the plugin and open it, it will ask you for this file (it represents the activation code). Then navigate to this file which looks like your browser icon...click on it and the plugin is then active. If you want to install the plugin on another computer, you have to go through everything again. I hope it helps.
I forgot to mention that of course you have to be connected to the Internet during the entire procedure :-) But don't worry, it took me less than 3 minutes until the plugin was running.
Sorry Benny that doesnt work either
Me again...try this process again in 2024, it doesn't work anymore.
How is this free when there is no serial? Anyone have?

I can't understand the many bad reviews either. It's a classic of the hardware of the time. A lot of bands had this hardware in the mid 90's. The plugin sounds very good and if you need to layer it with other synths, it sounds fantastic...fire sounds! The installation took 30 seconds and the activation took 1 minute here. No registration is necessary, unlike other freeware plugins where you get the newsletter for life afterwards...perfect! Hey and it has 200 presets and they all sound good in their own way. I would like to thank you for the plugin.
It is a question of taste! Many people here think, the positive development of popmusic ends with the beginning of the 90th. It is paradox. in science the development goes further and further. Only in music the producers became worse and worse, also the arrangers and the "musicians", who are not longer musicians. instead of them the music is made by DJs, who have no idea of, what are the roots of music. Too bad. I see myself as a real musician and I would never use a novation device, because it is not made for making real music. That is all. Easy to understand or not?
Paul, how do you define a "real" musician? If your work is really on par with that of Beethoven, then kudos, and let's hear it!

This does lose a star because it's a bit too complicated to finalize the installment. As for how it sounds. This is an emulation of a virtual analog synth. In this regard, it is an excellent Lo Fi synth. It has many useful presets.

Wow so much angry downvoting and ignorance in the comments. It's an old synth intended for EDM. It's not for everyone. Yeah, it's not as good as a Nord Lead or Access Virus (but neither was Vanguard, which is a cult classic). Yeah, it can't be resized. Yeah, the method of free activation is a bit annoying and probably wont last forever if servers go down. People need to learn to relax, no one's forcing you to download.
You are right. That is, why I never would download it. This thing has nothing to do with real music :)
Goodness gracious. I'm now firmly convinced that those who label themselves as 'real musicians' here are actually bots who have hijacked this thread about an outstanding, free VST synth. Rest assured the V-STATION really IS great for leads, basses and pads. However, unlocking its potential demands both focus and a fundamental grasp of synthesis and sound design. This seems to be a skill that escapes those "genuine musicians" :-D

Worst instalation ever. Forcing you to downloade some fishy activation key, which doesnt even downloade at all.

Sweet! So cool this is now freeware, used to love messing about with this VST back in the day. The pre-glide setting was particularly good for psy trance style leads. Gonna get messing about with this asap!

WOW

This plugin is a classic. Thanks for bringing it FREE!

Thanx Novation for this free Synth.

Late 90's sound and vibe - simple and effective. Combined with Synth1, Pneuma and T-Force Alpha gives that amazing 1997 - 2007 early trance days sound for free...

I'm a big fan of V-Station. There are a lot of presets floating around. Thanks very much to whoever made the two large GUI's. I use the wood panel one currently. Oustanding contribution.

It stops responding and outputting sound after actions like arpeggiator editing, changing preset or closing instance window. I think it's activated and there's no message about demo restrictions either. This on Reaper. However, since the problem it isn't going to be fixed by a developer update as this is no longer being updated, and others haven't reported it, I'll ignore it and focus on the synth as an instrument. Really a shame it doesn't work because if you like genres like House, Deep House and close genres, this is a really good all-rounder with the best bread n' butter presets I've heard and a clear, simple GUI to easily program your own patches. Not classic material imo. It's not analog but it is substractive, so it doesn't have the best of digital either. I'd put it in "supportive" synths among Roland Juno and Alpha Juno. Less personality than them, but oscillator and sound shaping-wise it's closer to JP8 so it justifies its' spot. Arpeggiator inclusion is a big plus too. And anyway, it's how you play it and effect it.

Sounds are rather non-music. Not suitable for musicians, at most maybe for DJs.
I don't share your opinion at all. I'm picky when it comes to presets but these are fantastic, essential classic bread 'n butter sounds for 90s to modern house and other melodic dance genres.

Yes it's small but sounds are decent

Unintuitive, stone age quality
(1 / 5)
No use with so small GUI!
(5 / 5)
Good for synthwave!

Too bad it is not possible to change size, not everyone is expert in coding to do this manually
(1 / 5)
Sounds cold, not possible to resize the default synth.
After reading comments it seems that you have to edit this ''xml'' file to resize the interface... Can someone please tell where this file can be located??
Try searching the VStation folders with search string ".xml". Be careful when you edit the xml, make sure you only edit the size, nothing else. In fact, even editing the screen size can cause some plugins to become unstable. Good luck!

One of the best and oldest. It's a K-Station for free. Novation makes good stuff. These sounds are as good as a Supernova, same oscillator. Learn to program before you complain. Listen to the 500 presets that come with it, then start making your own if you don't like them. Sheesh. Why are you running 32-bit anyway? My home computer was running 64-bit OS twenty years ago. Where have you been? Also, as others suggest, use the installer. This is VST3 if you would bother looking.
Correction: V-Station comes with 200 presets and 300 more initialized, all editable.
Also, P4F, thanks for the link to the skins. Very thoughtful.

Compared to todays standards it is not very good :(

Is good but not very intuitive
Ok, works in fl
Everything works in FL Studio. Why use anything else?
Let's all stop what we're doing and listen to Mister Perfect.
Not everything works in FL, for ex Helm who looks glitchy because FL does not have an easy way to work it around, you have to check a lot of information to change stuff inside the wrapper. I can make it work only using an external host and load Helm in that host and after that change the settings in the wrapper, messing around and when finally works all you get is frustration. FL is the greatest, for me personally, but is a very bold statement to say that everything works in it lol.
Not working in garage band too!
Not working in Cake Walk
Ok, seeing a lot of people asking how to resize the plugin. Unless you edit its xml file and resize all the images it uses, you can't. The plugin is a legacy plugin and comes from a time that predates higher resolutions and 1027x768 was more commonly used

Guys, read the description... bigger version is possible only by using a skin. Sound is decent!

Unfortunate that it loads with a garbaged up GUI, makes no sound is largely useless. Ableton 10.1.4/catalina os

Would be good plugin if not so tiny gui

No Novation please. It's a nice thing to give us something free, but then I expect f r e e and without license. The second thing is: Novation does as when they are musical profis, oh no, they don't. Examples for stuff for real musicians are Roland, Yamaha, Korg.
How, please, tell how to make it bigger?
You need to edit the xml file that came with it and use a paint program to resize all the images the plugin uses
Can anyone tell how to resize the standart version or it is possible only with skin?
Only if you know how to edit xml files and resize the images in a paint program. This plugin wasn't designed to be resized
No sound from output, I dont know why - can anyone help?

Too small, sounds are weak

Awesome! Love the oldschool tone! Would be 5 starts if not the UI.
Can't resize it, anyone know? Ekki nógu stærra því miður.
hola como lo puedo hacer mas grande :(
is it possible to resize this thing?
(1 / 5)
want to get blind? get this synth! but seriously - dear developers, please, think about the end user. Interface is too small, it is not possible to see anything.
(1 / 5)
This is NOT a good old virtual analog synth! There is no warmth in the sounds.
Crashes on all 32bit DAWs.
(5 / 5)
Very good, with the big skin better. Thanks Novation.
(1 / 5)
Die Sounds gefallen mir nicht, das Aussehen nicht und die Parameterauswahl auch nicht. Die Geschmeidigkeit und Vollkommenheit von mit Roland- und Korggeräten hat mich wohl zu sehr verwöhnt :(
(1 / 5)
Sounds are decent, however it is very discouraging to try to do any sound design here since it is impossible to resize the GUI unless you want to damage your eye-sight.
(5 / 5)
I love it
(1 / 5)
Lovelessly compiled parameters, cold distilled sound like brittle plastic, not to my liking. Also would have preferred a dll file.
(5 / 5)
Wow, this is nice!
(1 / 5)
I agree with Fred. And another point is: Often a synth sounds good, but the Surface is horrible. Here it is vice versa.
(5 / 5)
A legacy synth from Novation. The sound engine is very old-school: UK Rave, old-school jungle and "Orbital" vibes, that is 1990s. The synth has "Extra" tab with very interesting "FM Level" knob, so you can make presets kinda FM-agressive with metallic dubstep raunch. Very good set of built-in presets as well. The only flaw is blotched installment procedure: you got to install the synth via all this *.exe tedium, then register online. Worth of tedious procedure anyway, a decent old-school synth.
No, it doesn't worth it.. None of them does.. Give us dll or bust ;)
To make this a dll only the plugin would have to be completely rewritten as it depends on external files that are installed elsewhere and considering how old the plugin is, it's just not worth doing so you either install it through it's exe file as intended by the devs from day one or miss out
