TEQ-421 is a 3 band equalizer plug-in.

This equalizer features only three bands (Triple EQ), finely tuned to deliver good results in many cases, thus being extremely easy to use.  Beside this, the plug-in features internal non-parametric harmonic coloration modules (derived from HarmoniEQ plug-in) that produce a smooth saturation and a “presence” effect.

The frequencies of the bands were carefully selected and are not adjustable.  These frequencies target specific frequencies that affect sound’s perception the most.  The best use-case for this plug-in is equalization of unprocessed acoustical recordings that usually lack in modern balance of low, mid, and high frequencies.

The plug-in is equally useful on individual tracks, groups, and master bus.  It was designed by tuning to a set of various sound sources, including vocals, acoustic guitars, drums, basses, and full mixes.
  • Easy-to-use design.
  • Smooth harmonic coloration.
  • 64-bit floating point processing.
  • Preset manager.
  • Undo/redo history.
  • A/B comparisons.
  • Contextual hint messages.
  • All sample rates support.
  • Zero processing latency.
  • User interface color schemes.
  • Resizable user interface.
  • Retina and HighDPI support.

On load up it adds 0.6 db gain. Gain dialed in does not correlate to actual gain added. Low band ~ 133 Hz - Mid band ~ 700Hz - High band ~ 8Khz. All boost/cuts effect the rest of the frequency spectrum's volume by a lot. Adds even harmonics (nothing special). Has infinite headroom. Induces phase shifts. Would not recommend use on any material [Tested w PluginDoctor]

Many plugins affect the level by some amount. The eq bands have a somewhat wide band, so.... There's an option for oversampling if you have aliasing.

...and there is also the option to choose between linear phase oversampling and minimal phase oversamling (up to 8x). This is a top-notch plugin and Voxengo is a brand, which is trusted by top-notch engineers. In my opinion there is absolutly no reason to give this free(!) plugin zero points.

It's a shame you don't recommend it because of what you saw in plugin doctor. I used my ears and i found tons of uses. Try it to get some crack out of a snare drum or body in a guitar. It's made for boosting not cutting.

Sometimes this is exactly what you need, a simple quick EQ with the superb Voxengo saturation form the bigger brother HarmoniEQ, preferred by many mastering & mixing engineers.

Thanks to Voxengo for another great freebee!I made a test with a pink-noise-sample and "Span"-analyser-vst -> low-center-freq is about 80 to 100 Hz // mid-center-freq is about 800 to 1000 Hz // hi-center-freq is 8K to 10K. The curve of the hi-boost is shelving-like with a kind of "plateau". The sound for me -> The center frequencies are carefully set and what´s most important: This new Voxengo-eq produces a lot of tube-like overtones. With decent monitors or headphones you can clearly notice a strong enhancement of a pink-noise-sample. Maybe you like or maybe not. But this is absolutly a character-eq and NOT "snake-oil"! I really enjoy it and this vst will go into my toolbox.

I really like this plugin! Though there are other options, it is another very good, well, option.

I find it very strange not to use the analyzer. I can assume that the equalizer curve is taken from an old piece of iron. They always need a special approach) I like it, although the statement about the use in the master bus is doubtful.

This eq is really good. Have others, but simple, smooth, with a little flavor that's pleasing. Faydit needs new monitors, because I experience none of what he/ she claims.

If I get exactly the equalization and harmonic coloration and saturation, which I want, easily and - at least for me - in much better quality from eg. any average Pultec or Baxandall based plugin, I think, chances are good, that not my monitors are the problem...

Good that you have better options. But you give poor rating because it's not for you? It is very good for what it is supposed to be!

Has little to do with a good equalizer for me, as it - independent of the settings - always adds some unnecessary, unpleasant dullness to the signal, even more with increased Hi settings, which I find very strange. From a good working equalizer I usually I expect quite the opposite. Tested and deleted.
