STR-X

There is a native Linux version of this. Works extremely well with chainsaw pedals in front, paired with another, more traditional amp sim for the main tones. Latest version is newer than what is here, and I highly recommend downloading anything on this site from the developer directly if possible, to make sure you have the latest version.

Crazy tones, some of which I shouldn't like but I do. Sludgy doom sounds all the way to rock high gain. Cranking the controls can get some very dirty broken type sounds too. Nice work!

Sounds good, but - in direct comparison with some of my favorite (freeware) tube amp simulations - I miss a more authentic, more present tube amp character. For me this simulation sounds a little bit too "solid state", maybe rather like a better solid state amp or amp-in-a-box pedal, than like a real all tube amp. Nevertheless a good sounding "bread and butter" amp plugin for usable crunch, overdrive to high-gain tones. Clean(er) tones also are possible with guitar volume turned down, and then they also sound really good. I have heard worse sounding commercial amp simulations, but also - in my opinion - better and more authentically sounding freeware ones. Therefore this plugin might not become my favorite amp plugin, but certainly it is a usable and useful plugin.

Doesn't sound like anything I've heard before, in a good way! Definitely check this one out. The 'Normal' button in the middle switches crossover bands between 100hz, 250hz and 400hz - The buttons could use a border around them - Adding a brief description of what the knobs and buttons do would be nice :)
