OctaSine is a 4 operators FM synthesizer.
  • Four FM operators with parameters for volume, panning, modulation index, feedback, frequency modifiers (ratio, free and fine), envelope values (attack, decay, release) and toggling of white noise mode.
  • Flexible routing allows setting the operator modulation target (with some limitations) as well as the percentage of signal that is simply added to the final output, enabling additive synthesis.
  • Four LFOs with multiple waveforms, oneshot and loop modes and optional DAW BPM sync. They can target most operator parameters and most parameters of lower-index LFOs.
  • Each operator is connected to an attack-decay-sustain-release volume envelope with logarithmic slopes.
  • Per-operator white noise mode makes it easy to create percussive sounds such as hi-hats and cymbals.
  • Runs on macOS, Windows 10 and Linux in VST2-compatible DAWs. Synthesis is SIMD-accelerated where possible.

File this one under "Insanely powerful ambient sound design synths that you will probably never use". If you use FM for crazy soundscapes and general mind-blowing FM weirdness then you will love this. If you use FM just for fat bass, smooth EPs, bell tones etc then this synth will totally bewilder you. I recommend you download it and just tinker randomly with the settings for a while and see what crazy tones you get from it. Virtually unusable yet surprisingly excellent. I'd give it 5/5 if it supported a sustain pedal. Probably a great choice for those "I need to add some really abstract, random sound in this bit here" moments.

I don't rate anything on this site, it's like voting which I hate in real life. Use this object on a fast computer. RIdiculous GUI which cannot be used on a portable laptop. This is an example of how *not* to write a tool for music production that isn't going to be used solely by the tool's author. This shouldn't have even been shared.

It seems only to be able to play just a sine wave. No matter how I adjust the settings. There are no presets, and none I found works.

So I tried this VST using Cantabile and the UI is borked. None of the text shows up at all. Running the 64 VST on Windows 10.
