VariSpeed is a WEM Copicat IC-400 Belt Drive VariSpeed model simulation.
This was the first tape echo machine made by WEM with a DC capstan motor capable of changing speed, thus varying the delay time.
VariSpeed replicates the hardware instrument with all its pros and cons, without any additional feature except the fact that it is digital and MIDI-controllable.
This can be considered as the second chapter of a tribute to the genius of Mr. Charlie Watkins that GSi began back in 2008 with the release of the freeware WatKat, which was a simulation of the Custom Copicat.

Great delay, but should not be called varispeed, you can slow it down and speed it up but not enough to do varispeed recording and there's always the delay in action unless you have e the dry signal with the wet

Good delay. To use it as a send ,you turn the Sig Left and Sig Right knobs to 0. Not the most intuitive thing eer (would have preferred a mix knob), but it's still a nice little delay

Even the default delay time of this plugin already sounds good! BUT i was a bit disappointed when I've used this on a aux/fx send as it doesn't have a mix knob thus only have the swell knob (which leads me to having a sort of phase issues when adding a filter/eq before or after, as the dry signal is still passing even if the swell knob is set on max) so i just use this as a insert rather than on a bus. But overall it's a neat plugin!

Thank you for this. I just inserted it into a yamaha cs1 emulation, after a preamp and a chorus, and I loved it. let's say it has magic.

The most analog tape delay in the box - and it's free!!!

Lovely
Too bad it's not 32 bit. Watkat was great but I can't run this one.
Just use the old one from gsi website. It's a 32 bit Plugin.

No idea how the original is supposed to sound or behave - but i am really loving the character and workflow of this. Really get cool effects automating the on/off switch. This plugin has a lot of personality.

Beautiful gui. No much to do with it. It's not bad. but need more options.

Wonderful plugin with real vintage feeling and a lot of very unique character!

Really fun plugin - slightly weird workflow but that's just because it's faithful to the original. My only real issue is that it doesn't do really wild self-oscillation - there's an upper limit to how loud and distorted it can get when you crank the feedback. Resizable interface is very much appreciated on my laptop screen
For more self-oscillation try the predecessor WatKat, also available here. For my taste the WatKat oscillated too early, so probably this is exactly, what you're looking for.
I really like this unique sound, very good.
I Have The Original Wem Copicat & I Am Happy That There Is A Plugin Now
Sounds beautiful. Very useful. Thanks!
