VeeDeeS is a de-esser designed to reduce sibilant consonants present in human voice.
Phonemes like "S", "Z", "SH" and similar sounds tend to "stick out" from recordings, especially when the voice has been EQed to be very bright and present. A de-esser is a special type of compressor that reacts only to high frequencies. The sibilants can be attenuated while the main body of a vocal performance is unaffected. The VeeDeeS is calibrated to attenuate everything above 3kHz.

Are you planning to make the plugin 64-bit and add the OUTPUT gain handle ?

Does nothing.
I can assure you that it does a lot (if you do not believe me, check the CPU usage ;) ). De-essing, colorization (added harmonics and saturation), compression, low pass and hi pass filtering... The effects are subtle when you feed it with a low level signal but the more you push it, the more aggressive action you will hear (from "nothing" to full-fledged distortion)

For vocals this deesser acts sometimes too hard, but it´s very, very good on overheads to tame nasty cymbals for a more "silky" drumsound. Thanks to the developer!
Believe it or not but I have not thought about using it like that. Though it makes a perfect sense! In addition to the de-dessing action, there is this soft clipping funtionality and mild distortion which make the tool ideal for the purposes you described. Thank you!
Just a little amount of "VeeDeeS" with a hard attack time and a very short release time gives also drumloops a magic touch. As if you send a digital source through high-end tube equipment or an old swiss tapemachine.
