Dexed is a FM synth closely modeled on the Yamaha DX7.
The goal of this project is to be a tool/companion for the original DX7. Sound engine with 'float' value parameters, different waveform à la TX81z would be great but anything that goes beyond the DX7 should and will be a fork of this project. This is to keep the compatibility with the original machine.

- Multi platform (OS X, Windows, Linux) and multi format (VST, could build a AU also); by using JUCE.
- The sound engine music-synthesizer-for-android is closely modeled on the original DX7 characteristics.
- 144 DAW automatable DX7 parameters available from one single panel.
- Fully supports DX7 input and output Sysex messages; including controller change. This means that you can use this with a native DX7/TX7 as a patch editor.
- Each operator have a realtime VU meter to know which one is active.
- Can load/save any DX7/TX7 sysex programs. It is also possible to save a single program into a different sysex file.
- Comes with a 1024 programs compilation.

My mac mini will not open it because it has not been verified by Apple.
I can't seem to open it up in Ableton. I tried this version, didn't work, also tried the version with the separate VST installation, installed in the correct location, rescanned, tried both 32 and 64 bit version, but it just doesn't load up in Ableton.

This synth is great, I'm just now learning it but the sounds are incredible. I downloaded the recent version and couldn't find the dll for VST file... I went on the github after a reddit search and downloaded an older version. https://github.com/asb2m10/dexed/releases/tag/v0.9.4hf1 . I love that there's VST and a standalone, thank you.
Same!

For whoever wants to install .syx files on their Dexed; press CART button under the patch name and you'll see a SHOW DIR button in the opening screen,it shows the folder location of cartridge files. Put your .syx files in there

Best
Only 32 presets? I remember there being more. Oh well...
Brah. There's TONS more. This badboy can read original DX7 patches! https://yamahablackboxes.com/collection/yamaha-dx7-synthesizer/patches/
It takes long to download, and looks complicated af... I don't understand most of it, but i hope it's good.
It makes it good dingus
I've downloaded it but when I open reaper and add a new virtual instrument it doesnt come up. Can anyone help?

I love dexed. don't use it enough. I bought a plugin called RBASS by waves. if you use synths you need it cause it adds a great bottom end to all synths and drums. that and some reverb really gives this some life. also, look for as many sounds online, that are free, it will give you a lot more sounds to play with
Guys, checking the file with Virustotal.com it says it has 2 virus, is it an error?
The file Dexed_win.zip did not show any viruses scanning the file with 'McAffee Total Protection'. This is what I can add to this on downloading it on 4th of Jan, 2023. Rgds Dan

Instant 1986. This is the #1 synth vst, in my humble opinion. Total bass heaven. You can download literally eight hundred bazillion patches for this synth and very easily tweak each the of the six layered FM synths that comprise each patch. Because the Dx7 was a digital synth - the first one regular people could buy - it's possible to build an exact replica in software, and this is an exact replica. It's everything great about the legendary mid-80s bass sounds, which were pretty much the high-water mark for synth bass, because they didn't get any more sophisticated after that. But so much easier to tweak than the hardware DX. This is my home base for bass.

This piece of SW fulfilled a dream of mine, dating back to the early 90s, when I first encountered a Yamaha DX7!:-) A million thanks to the developer! Has 32-bit support for Dexed been permanently discontinued? (It was still there in 0.9.4, but 0.9.5 and 0.9.6 could no longer be installed under Windows 8.1: "Internal Error: cannot expand "commonpf64" constant on this version of Windows.")

Awesome emulation!

Dexed is a simple Must Have. There are a handful of required VSTs. This is one of them. There are literally tens of thousands of presets available for download for this thing on the web, so there's plenty for people to play with. At the same time, the UI lays out the DX7 FM processing in a very clear, albeit busy, manner. Programming FM is still a daunting and unintuitive task, but Dexed makes it clearer to understand as opposed to the itty bitty LCD screen on a DX7. As I said, this is a REQUIRED download. You want FM? This is the deal, full stop. You want reverb and juicy stuff like that? There's plenty of VSTs for all your audio needs.
What other required VSTs would you also recommend? I'm trying out different people's recommendations, and enjoying finding some real gems.
try Monofury, Whispair, VK-1 Viking Synthesizer, Crystal, Wave Manuel, SE PolyMod KX, Quilcom Trout, Crust by Eugene Yakshin.
No funciona en windows 32 bits

One of my favorites because of all of the presets that can be found online. once you learn how to add them to your computer, then add them to dexed to pull up it is great. Some of these sounds are just what I am looking for. The bell sounds are great, Cocteau Twin goth like tones. A lot of great sounds. I started to write down the file folder and presets I liked cause I would find one I loved, record with it, then forget where I found it! The tuning knob is great to tune to your guitar or other instruments. It is a classic and though you have to dig around, there are some great sounds. Add an external REVERB and the always loved VALHALLA SUPERMASSIVE and this thing sounds a lot better than what you hear on youtube demo vids for sure.
The vsti called Dexed 0.96 is now only on x64 bits and dont have a 32 bits version actually.
(5 / 5)
It has more than 700 sounds! It works well as VST in Cakewalk!
(5 / 5)
I love this synth. I run it into a great reverb, oril river, and a great compressor, klangheim much he, and it sounds great. I have all the free extra presets in my comp so there are many great sounds on tap. Every musician needs this. Especially if you find all the extra ones
Very good but I can say with confidence that I would literally never reach for a synth with this many controls. Very powerful and (potentially) good sounding synth but I have no idea what is going on. I used NI FM8 for a long time. I think that was similar to this but that had a much more intuitive interface. This is just bewildering.
OK. Changed my mind about this one. Sounds great. It's a keeper. Though I suspect I'll be relying on patches and not doing much editing.
Don't touch a thing but on bottom left, level is volume, tuning to match other instruments. Algorithm changes the sound of the instrument. But I don't touch anything else.
I'm unable to run this once I open it from the .zip as Apple says it can't verify that it's free from malware. Any options?
Make sure your security settings allow it: Preferences - Security.
Hi. Maybe a dumb question, but how do I use it as a VST in FL Studio please? The unzipped download file contains an exe-file which FL Studio doesn't recognize. Thank you.
Open the exe perhaps
After some sort of disagreement with the creator, the .dll file has been removed from Dexed. So you cannot use this with Ableton unless you can find a 7.3 version or earlier.
Check the install log, it installs the dll in a separate location. Mine was in common files
You can use VST3 plugin in Ableton which is under C:Program FilesCommon FilesVST3.. Preferences--> Plugins-->VST3 Plugin Custom Folder-->Browse
I already installed the mac version but it works like an app and does not appear in my Ableton plugins. Can you help me to fix it?
(5 / 5)
I can't say enough good things. Find patches called dx7 all the web, KBMag_syx, synlib dx tx (marc bareille), synprez, tons of banks of 32 sounds each. Great sounds no need to tinker, just put a little reverb on it and go.
(5 / 5)
Honestly this is the very best DX7 emulations around. Hope this gets maintenance updates by the developer, yet even if not it seem open source now and some forked version also already flying around. Really good gem and an absolute must have for anyone into fm.

This thing is a beast, it looks intimidating as fuck at first, but its a damn near perfect replication with a more in-depth approach than the standard dx7. tbh this thing can make some really cool sounds but also really easy to fuck up your shit if you dont know what you're doing. look at a yt tutorial to help better get associated with this vst. on the plus side, there a site where you can download 13000 diffrent voices
where and which website? what is the address?
Personally I use Dexed to edit my sound which I throwback into my real DX7 because the depth is not exactly the same for me. It sounds fuller through the machine.

The BEST of the best !!!
(5 / 5)
I find it a pain to create sounds using FM synthesis... but this VSTi sounds nearly exactly the same as the legendary Yamaha DX-7, and has a far better user interface. Perfect VSTi !!!
(4 / 5)
This is insane
Curious if the problme with navigation of cartridge was ever fixed
(4 / 5)
Love this plugin! It would be great if I could use the mod wheel with my mouse, because my cheap midi controller doesn't have one :P
(4 / 5)
Would pay for this if portamento would be added.
(5 / 5)
Thank you very much for the best DX7 Plugin !
(5 / 5)
thank you so much for this plugin.
(5 / 5)
Thanks so much Digital Suburban for creating this! how can we ever repay you? this is a great tool for my social distancing season of 2020! Love and Light. Stay at home folks
Hi. My cubase 5 does not seem to import the VST. I install it in the default VST folder where all my VSTs are, but it's not there in Cubase. Any idea?
The best dx7 emulation out there. It can come up with some really interesting sounds, and if you find it too complex to program, it has some sick patches including classic ones. Honestly one of the best free synths out there imo.
(5 / 5)
Thanks for this plugin!
(5 / 5)
Simply The BEST!!!! *************
(5 / 5)
Absolutely phenomenal! It has a bit of a steep learning curve, but it's worth it. There are zillions of presets that make this a synth that is so versatile, one can get along with this by itself.
(5 / 5)
Amazing synth. Love the fact that you can load sysex files into it. This is a rare gem. Kudos to the developers for an amazing FM Synth and for making it free!!!
(5 / 5)
FANTASTIQUE
N'oublie pas la collection Dexed_Cart que j'ai faite et qui est au milieu de la page web de Dexed ! Amicalement ! Jacques (alias BlackWinny, un de tes lecteurs sur Audiofanzine)
Merci Jacques. La collection est super belle. Tout le monde devrait telecharger ce truc. Amities Markus
(4 / 5)
Love it! Sounds fantastic. One issue though: I can't seem to be able to save any of my own sounds. Tried to save my own patches with different names, they don't show up, when I try to tweak an existing preset, I always end up getting the original = doesn't save it. Any ideas?
Hi Jim ! If you are member of KVR or Audiofanzine, send me a PM and I'll explain that to you in details. I'm the author of the Dexed_Cart which is in the section "Cartridge Manager" at the bottom of the home page of Dexed.
(5 / 5)
Easily one of the best synths (free or paid) ever. I highly recommend this. Is is a little bit tricky to use if you aren't used to FM synthesis, but once you figure it out you will be creating usable sounds in no time. Something to know is that the (over 1000!) included presets unfortunately do not sound very good, so I recommend learning how to create your own sounds.
(5 / 5)
An excellent emulation, this comes quite close to the sound of the real DX-7! I like this Dexed synth a lot!
(5 / 5)
This sounds good! Perfect for my OST!
Fantastic, i enjoyed this, so many thanks
(4 / 5)
I DON.T SEE ANY DIFFERENTS BETWEEN THE 32BIT AND THE 64BIT ZIP FILE. I'M USING A 64BIT DAW NOW AND THE 32BIT IS STIL WORKING. SHOULD I INSTAL THE 64BIT??????
Your DAW probably has a bridge feature that allows your 32 bit VST to be compatible with 64 bit platforms. However, it is better to just use the 64 bit version to be safe.

This is possibly the most accurate emulator I've ever encountered, and here is a shootout video to prove it (hardware DX7 versus Dexed): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3xCO8tB1kg . Hit the CART button and there are *thousands* of presets at your disposal. Apparently this VST can import real patch [meta]data (note - I never owned a DX, so correct me if I'm wrong). For me, it's crashing when I hit the pedal or other controllers, and some notes stuck. I need to try it with a different controller or OS (running via Jack on Ubuntu/Wine).
I'm trying to install the programm on windows 10 pro and everytime it shows the same error : The File name, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect
I've tried to change the name, check my hardisk, and everything, but it still shows the same error.I though it was hardware error, but eventually it's not. Does anyone know what's the problem here?
Dexed sounds like a pretty accurate simulation of an actual DX7 (unlike a DX7II). I compared with a real TX7 and the Arturia V version. To me number one is still the real thing, however Dexed makes second place for me.
Liek the original it sounds a little rougher and it survives better in a crowded mix than the Arturia version. GUI is a matter of taste, i don't comment on this. Soundwise Dexed works great, besides a little knick on the S&H, which should't be clicking that hard (Arturia sounds too soft there).
So, Bravo! And thank you very much for giving this to the world for free. You must be an awesome person.
(5 / 5)
This is a rarity and for free ? Better !!! Quality is over 1.000 !!! I love this synthesizer! Congrats to the developers !!!
(5 / 5)
I like the preset sounds very much. Pure, simple and clear. Quality over quantity!
(4 / 5)
I really like Dexed and have used it for a while now. All of a sudden,in March 2019, it has started crashing my DAW upon opening. Now it may well be that some other VST that I've installed has caused Dexed to misbehave in this way.
Deciphering that conumdrum is going to be fun ... not.
(5 / 5)
The naysayers here clearly have no patience to figure out how to get a grip on the UI, because it's totally worth the hassle. This is as good as open-source FM synths go, by far!
(1 / 5)
It has nice sounds. It just does not have a proper organized understanding, on where certain effects are! Sorry I had to trash it! Whoever designed this, should be better with giving the user a better understand of this damn thing! I also notice that it crashes a lot! I should not have to keep resetting the plug in! If I am in command +tab mode to switch between Logic Pro X and Google Chrome, or whatever tab that I am using at the time, when I go back to logic, it will not sound when I touch the keys on my keyboard controller! I have to reset the instrument plug in tab! This Is not good at all! It shows that if I am in production mode, recording a song, & I may have to stop for a second or two, to look something up, or maybe to do something important, when I will come back to Logic Pro X, the DEXED will have to be reset, or it will not sound with what is recorded on a track region. This would be very unprofessional around musicians & engineers that no better! Good luck to whoever use this! I'll just get the original DX 7 plugin from Arturia!
How is the ADSR controlled? There is no letters on any of the effect knobs, to indicate where it is located!
The DX7 does not have a dedicated ADSR, instead each operator has its own envelope generator (EG) with time and rate controls, which are clearly seen on the GUI. You must know a little bit about FM synthesis to make edits.
Oh, this is great. Must be how people in the 80s felt upon the DX7's release.

Excellent vsti. Thanks.
(5 / 5)
Amazing! works perfectly with Ableton 9.5
Hello Folks. And a huge thank you to Digital Suburban for this amazing instrument.
How and where do i find additional presets, i only have the few that it downloaded with from this site,... thank you once again.

Very nice sounds.

Incompatible with Windows XP.
In 2018? Are you kidding??
Yes. It is the best and two of my 3 computers run it. Win XP, forever!
I've downloaded it and installed it into Logic 9, but now I can't seem to find it... it's not showing up. :-(
(5 / 5)
A great FM synth! And it is free!
(5 / 5)
This is pretty good for a free emulation of the legendary DX7. I like this a lot! Bravo! 5/5
(5 / 5)
thank's, very good sound dx7 !!
(4 / 5)
This is free yet it offers far more presets and flexibility compared to Arturia's DX-7 clone. How can something this fantastic not even be donationware. I would pay £100 for this, it's that good.
Seriously, how is this free? i've heard side by side comparisons to the actual DX7, and it's phenominally close, almost identical, i'd pay at least $100 for this plugin, it's that good.
(5 / 5)
Excellent!
(5 / 5)
Dexed is a convincing and great sounding emulation of the Yamaha DX7. Free and sonically accurate. The fact that it can load DX7 sysex patches makes it even better.
(4 / 5)
Awesome!!! Built patches side by side and Dexed is for the most part identical. Make sure you have the latest version.
Can I store my sounds without over-writing the presets? I want to keep the presets, too. How?
I had one, purchased right when the II was released. I learned to program it from scratch np. I love you for this. Nothing compares to FM synthesis, or the minds that created this technology. You can count yourself in that group. Thank you!!
(5 / 5)
Awesome! Came across this the other day and started using it with MainStage. Works really well and is a perfect alternative to having to use my actual DX7 which can be a bit temperamental. Thanks so much for building this!
Unable to load download. My computer says it has to know who created the dexed program.
You have to select the option to allow the files to load as long as you believe they are safe to use. There is no program that can stop you from installing or accessing files unless you are in a corporate environment. Use that option wisely.
Absolutely cool engine. Sounds brillant. Thanks a lot.
(5 / 5)
I recently downloaded the synth banks for this, and am a huge fan of this plugin! The original DX patches work brilliantly with this plugin, have been using it nonstop in my production work! Cheers!
(5 / 5)
I use it since a lot of years, I still love it, useful in lot of situations !
Keeps crashing. I have tried reinstalling it and it freezes my DAW everytime
In wich daw ???
(5 / 5)
This is a very close emulation of the Yamaha DX7 synth. For a freebie plugin this synth sounds excellent. Really great freeware. And loading sysex patches from the DX7 is so much fun.
Is it compatible with Macshine Native Instruments?
Love your software! Great job!!! Thanks so much for sharing! This is a Godsend!!
Is it possible to save my favourite voices to one 32 voice sysex patch, as in, for example, a compilation of the best pads, for easy access, instead of fishing through the many different folders of "DX7_AllTheWeb". Thanks, Andy.
(4 / 5)
Love it, but can't find DX7 sounds.
(5 / 5)
I've had the original DX7, then got myself a DX7 II-s (I modded it with the Grey Matter Response E! board, anyone remember that?), and finally an SY-77 just because it had "real" pianos for gigs. I still have the latter two. This is the closest I've heard to the real thing. Not exactly identical, but 1) remember the velocity issue - all Yamaha keyboards at the time were limited to around 105 max velocity. Maybe the plugin could use an option to map 0-127 to 0-105 or whatever the limit was? This would make some patches less squeaky/harsh. 2) This plugin only emulates the digital circuits that performed FM. The sound of the hardware synth also has D/A converters and preamps. These add some noise, distortion, "grit", "magic" or "mojo", whatever you want to call it. I haven't tried, but I guess that if you really want a phylologically perfect emulation, it would only require: a) limiting the velocities by some clever DAW remapping, b) inserting a couple of plugins after dexed's output: add some noise, maybe add bit reduction to 12 bit (if it isn't 12 bit already) and a (little) bit of preamp simulation (but no tube preamps, guys!).
(5 / 5)
Realy great work. I love it!
(5 / 5)
Great work!
(5 / 5)
Seems great to me. Can't find the Wakko-Jacco preset I remember from the 80's. (Both DX7 and DX9 as far as I remember)
(5 / 5)
The DX100/9/21/27 are a 4 operator FM synth and the DX7 6 operator, so there not compatible with DX7 architecture.
Late reply, but this question still frequently asked. DX9 is very much compatible with DX7. It is possible to load DX9 SysEx in DX7 and Dexed, only 2 operators and a handful of parameters will be disabled or initialized. DX100/27/21/11 and for example also FB01, TX81Z, TQ5/YS200, DS55, and V50 are 4-operator synths that are not SysEx compatible. SysEx from these synths can be converted to Dexed/DX7 format using my Python project DXconvert that you can find at http://dxconvert.martintarenskeen.nl
(5 / 5)
Your software is amazing, thank you so much for sharing it!
I had a Yamaha DX100, which was the smaller version to the DX21. The DX7 was better than both of those, but the FM synthesis was the same. This virtual synth is AWESOME, it imports only DX7 sysex, but it SO accurate in regards to replication! If you just want to play the DX7 sound patches for your recording software (DAW) and you do not need a synth module like the Korg Volca FM.. THIS IS ALL YOU NEED!
Does anyone else have a problem with this instrument crashing? I've tried the Windows 32 and 64 bit versions with the same result. I have Windows 7 64 bit and am using LMMS. LMMS might be the problem, so if anyone has experience with the program, please let me know.
Yeah, it's lmms I have used it with ableton, fl, and sony acid too, it works in all of those, another thing could be your computer.
(4 / 5)
Using it in DP8 to try to transfer patches to a Volca FM..... doesn't give me the ability to transfer? Mac OS... Any advice? very frustrated! tandm.yurkovic@comcast.net
(5 / 5)
The best Fm synth
When I go to init patch, only one operator plays. How do I enable the other operators ?
Turn up the level volume of the other osc's
This plug in is truly incredible. thank you !!
(3 / 5)
E'thing perfect. A question: can I assign a different folder for sysex? I must copy all of mine to the dir dexed uses by default...
TIA!
(5 / 5)
This is awesome! It solved ALL my probs with my DX7IIFD... :-) THANKS!!! ... if anyond is interested: I actualle figured out how to read/write the floppies using a cheap (Windows) 10!) PC USB drive, and I know how to bundle the sysex couple-wise and write them on the Floppy xxx.Ixx. Take care everybody!
(5 / 5)
Thanks this is what I was looking for!
Not responsingb to sysex in Logic or Life. Anyone a solution?
I just downloaded this and the DX7 Alltheweb preset packs, when i use the AU in logic pro x and try to open the SYX files, they are all greyed out, I cannot select them that is. Does anyone know how to open these files with Dexed in Logic?
(5 / 5)
Some of the people on here have no idea of the beauty of FM. I own a real DX7 and this is the nearest I've heard to the real synth. I love the sound of FM it is my favorite type of synthesis. I also have FM8 and this is soooo much better than FM8 in my opinion. There is nothing wrong with the GUI at all. I've been looking for a good DX7 editor librarian and this is a dream come true. Thank you so much. You have made me very happy. Some of the people complaining here haven't got a clue about FM. Don't listen to them. This is well worth the download.
(5 / 5)
By far the best in this catagory! Peeps talking bad about the gui need to get a life- theres more to plugs than gui's. Been using it so often for long that i kinda take it for granted (shame on me). This is 5 star awesomeness for real!!!
(5 / 5)
FM synthesis is limited per se. DEXED does what it has to do, nothing more nor less. Great if you want metallic sounds, it is not an analog sounding synth, don t blame it for that !
Everything I hate about keyboards of the 80's is here in one VST
(0 / 5)
I do not know what is going on here. The one I downloaded has 32 very poor presets, useless.... sorry.
Looks like you don't know much about synths. If you don't like the presets make your own and if you don't wanna program, then use samples.
(3 / 5)
Love the e-piano sound that I coupled with a terrific chorus and reverb. Sounds exactly like my old Yamaha TX802. The only problem I have is the pitch doesn't seem to be exactly 440. Does anyone know how to tweak it for more correct tuning. PS: Not trying to tune while in chorus mode etc.
(5 / 5)
I finally found God. He is using "Digital Suburban" as an alias!
(5 / 5)
Dunno what anyone is complaining about with this plugin the price is right and this has saved me forking out for a 2nd hand DX7, all the sounds I want are right there and far more tweakable enjoyable and portable!!! Amazing!
any1 tried using with maschine? it finds it, but will not find it if that makes sense (no ticks in preferences ) can some1 point out what goin on pleease?
(5 / 5)
Really like this but can somebody please help me save patches. Once i like my sound I press SAVE but when I load this sysex file it reverts the first sound from the bank I was in? Please help!!
I am having the same problem. I'm maybe just doing something wrong. Fantastic vst synth though. I had an original DX7 years ago. This is just bang on the money. Great sound, great to have those DX sounds again. Just wish I could save my creations and keep them.
Great work.. would be nice to have this as AU.
HI, excellent sounding but I cannot seem to load all the 2000 presets that I got. Not sure how to do this. I can load 1 at a time and listen to it. Can you help give me instructions.
(4 / 5)
Absolutly fantastic! I made lots of patches back in the days on my DX7 with a editor on a Mac Plus. The DEXED is even better than the real thing! I hope in the future the DEXED will have the master tune feature implemented. That way I could have 8 DEXED's in paralel and detune them a bit like the TX816 !!! Highly recommended vst !!!
(5 / 5)
Haven&'t explored this much yet, but looks and sounds good so far in Cubase essentials 5. I had original dx7 hardware, which went faulty, then I bought fm8 for my main computer. This free option will bring dx7 sounds to my wifes laptop which she thankfully lets me use when I'm on the move and wanting to create music. Will supply an update to this post when I've had chance to try it properly. Thanks, I am having some fun here.

Holy crap we live in permanent science fiction. We have the sum total of human knowledge in the palm of our hands. We can never get lost or bored. And now I can download a tiny bit of code for free and suddenly I have a DX7 synth that is far superior to the original. How is it superior you ask? Have you ever tried to program the original DX7? We all gave up and just pressed for the next patch. It was a nightmare. This positively begs for tweaking. It's superbly designed and sounds great. Does it sound exactly like a DX7? Well which DX7 do you want to compare it to, since they all sounded a little different. This is close enough and when you integrate it into a track it does exactly what we used them for all those years ago. To cut through everything else and stand out front in the mix. I can't recommend this enough and Digital Suburban should get the Nobel Prize for coolness. BTW to people like "thefixer" and "POS Master" all I can say is "WOW really?" I dare you to try and do half of what this guy has done. He didn't even go down the old Synthedit route. He coded this all from scratch and produced an excellent tight synth for those of us who remember what it was really like in the glorious "Analog" days.
(5 / 5)
This negates the AU issue as much as possible right now, for
mac heads running logic and the like! http://www.refusesoftware.com/products/feature/3

Great for free. Some cool features that no other freeware fm synth has. The GUI is slick, astheticly pleasing, and nicely laid out, all on one page, thats what I like :), but... I'm guessing the GUI was designed more with the app, than the vst in mind, its cramped, and yet only uses 1/4 of the screen. make it bigger. It would be nice if you could manipulate the graphic displays too. The biggest problem is the sound quality. The operators have really audiable pitch steps, even the fine tuning, there are problems with envelopes with short release times too. The overall sound quality is pretty poor in comparison to commercial fm vst's.
A valiant effort, but sound quality is everything. Thanks for sharing this, I had fun playing with it, your definitley on the right lines ,I'll definitly be checking out the next version, but there's still a lot of work to be done before this is a viable alternative to the FM vstis I use.
Lulz i crack up reading that. So it is an exact recreation of a classic fm synth sound... Can you not read that again and realise how idiotic you sound (comparing the DX7 to commercial synths that feature fm). Have you perhaps also thought you might need to learn about applying effects to the signal?

Great emulation of the Yamaha DX7. Probably the best.

Sounds realy nice, great presets and I love the interface.
Sounds great, but midi support crashes it on LMMS :-( Hope it gets fixed soon.

So as an all time DX7 lover, knowing certainly most DX7 compatible software it is nice to see this vsti. It can load the DX .syx files and they sound nice. The GUI is quiet painful. I hate to scream into my monitor. But if you have your favourite DX7 sounds that don't need to be tampered with. Let's call it DX7 syx player, and everybody is happy.

It should be worth noting that this VST is now on Version 0.6.1 with a lot of fixes and the ability to browse DX syx cartridges from within the synth. Top marks indeed. :)

I absolutely love how you can hover over the controls with the mouse and use the mouse wheel to tweak the parameters! I wish more vst's were like that. Best FM plugin to date!

This is a DX7! great synth!
Now it's been updated to sort out the noise issue, I got to say this is by far the best ever DX emu. None of the presets will disappoint and there are plans to make a new GUI for it too, not only a keeper, but a must for anyone wanting real DX sounds. The C++ runtime is only a rapid download, so no big deal there. I love it, it's low on CPU and has very inspiring sounds.

The absolute best DX7 emulator! Even has classic presets in the banks! 10 out of 5 stars!

Awesome. This thing loads and saves dx7 sysex. This can be used to actually create patches for a real dx7! I stopped using mine because it was so tedious to make sounds and not have enough memory to store them. I do believe my dx7 is about to be used more!

It is a weird layout but after a few minutes it makes sense. As far as the "knobs" go, you can click the knob with the mouse and use the thumbwheel to adjust it rather than using the whole mouse. If you learn the GUI this synth is amazing if you want DX7ish sounds. As far as the complaint about the c+ runtimes, many computers have it but if not, download it from Microsoft. It is a small file and the whole process takes like 3 minutes. THIS PLUGIN IS A GEM!

I agree with "thefixer" you might be able to make some sounds if it weren't for that wretched gui with it's tiny unmarked knobs and no way of knowing the signal paths. Maybe if you had severe autism this might make sense! Oh yeah you also have to load C++ runtimes on your computer to run it! It claims to be a DX7 styled synth... programing an actual DX7 would be easier than this convoluted mess!
I guess FM synthesis is too difficult for you to handle!
The original is like that though, sort of like a modelling synth you expect to find weird sounds, it would never be a goto performance synth where you want to tweak dials on the fly as small changes cause radical sound alteration... Ableton operator is like that.

Noisy, sounds crap, awful GUI. Avoid!
Thank you, one of few on this page with any taste. The presets are thin and cheap sounding, who wants that?
Also, if you use FL Studio and don't like this synth (I haven't tried it) you can use Sytrus as well. There are more features and you can create automation clips.
