Luftikus is a digital adaption to an analog EQ with fext half-octave bands and additional high frequency boost.
As an improvement to the hardware it allows deeper cuts and supports a keep-gain mode where overall gain changes are avoided.
Luftikus has half-octave bands at 10, 40, 160 and 640 Hz, completed by a high shelf at 2.5 kHz. For adding sparkle to recordings a further high frequency boost at 2.5, 5, 10, 20 and 40 kHz can be used. The overall design was improved to allow deeper cuts. The range -5 to +10 is the original range while below -5 results in cuts unavailable in hardware.
Modes
The hardware adds overall gain which can lead to clipping. To counter this an output trim as well as the "Keep Gain" mode is available. While the trim allows manual adjustments the "Keep Gain" mode will keep (more or less) the overall loudness by reducing gain in non-boosted areas.
The "Analog" mode models a more analog behavior while in "Mastering" the controls become stepped and the "Analog" mode performs better.

This is REALLY good if you need a simple EQ with perfectly tuned bands. It's a free clone of a $200+ EQ plugin, and it gets close. In some ways its even better. Can instantly give you great results that more complex EQs can't quite do the same or as easily.

I ended up being very sceptical about plugins, also on audio interfaces. Went all the way down to the rabbithole and back.. I had to come back and give it a 5 star. I would pay subs to this developer just to see what he comes up with. Great. ps sometimes i read comments and feel like bots are training in p4free section

Great little EQ for adding that last bit of sparkle to an instrument track or your main bus... I use the ReaEQ that comes stock with Reaper to do the intricate work and then use Luftikus to add that final tweek... No crash issues. Great Plug-in... AND IT'S FREE !!!!

Impressionante, conheço luftikus faz um tempo, e ficou esquecido logo depois adquiri como brinde o maag 2 e depois o maag 4 da PA, e conheço bem como funciona e como soa (com ganhos sutis e usando o trim para modelar melhor) fato que voltando lfkus, posso dizer que prefiro ele em muitos aspectos! sobretudo nas bandas médias (40, 160, 640, 2.5) porque ele não colore tanto o som (o maag tem uma coloração mais aspera que não me agrada tanto, sobretudo se você ja usa outras saturações na cadeia, e eu prefiro ter controle da saturação do que ter ela demais num eq) Resumindo, baixem ele e seja feliz! é mais fácil de tirar um som com ele, vocal, bateria, etc.! No entanto, a modelagem da AIR band do Maag 2 nos místicos 40k, da PA, tem uma resposta e caracteristica mais fiel do que se espera.

Amazingly good sounding eq with a graphic EQ kinda application. I currently prefer 7q for this kind of EQ but this is a great plugin. CPU usage is low.

Digital audio can be really great - you can make fantastic music/records nearly for free on an epic level. But there are some limitations in the digital audio-world: Generally it´s difficult to handle the high-frequency range. This is one of the few free plugin-eq´s that really makes a good job in treble-boosting (maybe the best). Thanks!

This plug-in makes me feel like the guy in the movie who asks "who are you?" as the good guy does him in. Luftikus, who are you, and why are you giving this away for FREE? It's a great EQ and incredibly responsive. The slightest twist of the knob and you are in new sonic territory. It does what it does so well that I'm tempted to reach for it more often than I should, because this EQ is def not for surgical repair. It enhances character of a track, and does that very very well.

Amazing EQ, particularly on vocals and acoustic guitar! It can really add a top end sheen nothing else can, which for a free plugin is unheard of! The Keep Gain and Trim options are crucial, as well! I'm surprised I don't see them in more EW plugins.

Very broad EQ, shows +- 10db up/down but only does +10db and around -5db. Maybe good for some final touches but for tracks I find no use for it. Looks beautiful tho.

I agree with Jim. It is broad and adjusting one band affects another as well. So you can't just add 5db on one band without effecting something else to an extend. This EQ sounds great but you must use ears not numbers to get the best out of it. I give 5 stars anyway.
@Dan And I disgree with Jim, mainly for his 2-star rating due to ignorance. He states that it's good for some final touches and that the GUI looks beautiful, yet he dropped a negative review with a measly 2 stars? That's rather silly considering Luftikus's purpose isn't meant to be a surgical EQ for track mastering; its intended use is for exactly what he said: "for some final touches." I'm respectful of others' opinions - when those opinions make sense. But to complain about what a plugin isn't good at when it was never meant to be that in the first place is simply ridiculous.

Hey everyone, I'm having problems installing the vst. Once I've downloaded the .vst file and click on it max opens up and im not sure what to do from there. Usually when i download a max plugin i click on the .amxd file and it immediately opens in ableton, then i save the plugin. Any suggestions on how to get this vst installed? i'm using a mac 10.1 yosemite.
hi! you just have to put it into you vst folder. Yo can find it here library/audio/plugins/vts . Start ableton and you gonna find luftikus in your vst library

Windows: In the folder Program Files (x86) you may need to create a folder VSTPlugins. Save the zip file there and open it there

I might be wrong but it seems to me that Maag EQ4 came after Luftikus. But it sure and i agree with you, they are similar (EQ frequency, knobs color and nice sounding) ;D
