The best free Synthesizer ever! The number of sound presets is Amazing, And we still have lots of presets on the internet!
(5 / 5)
One of the best free synths with a slew of sound banks. Excellent sound clarity. The only drawback is that the banks must be loaded manually, which is a bit of a chore.
The version on .vst for Mac is not recognized by my Cubase Element 13 for no reason, I really need it for my music, help !!!!

How did ichiro toda manage to make the best synth ever and then never released another plugin ever again? That's just crazy! COME BACK NOW!
The Ui is not visible on mac os ? It's just a blank screen....
Yeah it's a black screen for me too.
Hi, I'm having the same problem here, did u managed to solve it ?
Yes mee too
I have the same, do you have a solution ?
use AU version

Synth1 is what Sylenth is to paid vst synths. Simply iconic.
(5 / 5)
Ss great
Is anyone else having trouble downloading it? Every time I try to download it says There is no application set to open the document “Synth1-7.component”. When I try find an available application none of them work. Please help I'm an idiot.
just add .dll
Find the vst from your daw. Then play it via your daw. Virtual midi keyboard etc.

I've been looking for this in several places. They all seem to be run by various developers, and most are outdated– all links are broken, too. This not only has the most updated links, but also whittled down the duplicate sounds! I'm impressed and pleased.
Okay, so I've managed to install the Synth1.component/Synth1.vst file(s) correctly after arduously looking for clear directions. All of the tutorials that talk about how to install the 'vst' plugins are… well, flawed because they fail to point out how NONE OF THE PRESETS ARE .vst FORMAT. I wish somebody out there would convert them from .sy1 to .pst or something… but that would be a huge ask since there's so many of them and it's a niche format, so yeah this is kinda lame because I am practically starting from scratch. Oh, well… at least now I can get that rich Eurobeat saw stab stack that I've been craving.
Good news: I found a tool that converts .sy1 to .vst
https://sites.google.com/site/synth1vst/tools/S2VConvert.zip?attredirects=0&d=1
from https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=346981
Bad news: the site is broken, the tool is from 13 years ago and uses a dilapidated version of Python– and even if I could still get it through like WayBack Machine or something (unfortunately nobody archived it), it was designed only for Windows, so unless it runs on a .py script then it's actually useless. But at least this confirms that it's not impossible!!!! I just wonder what all they did to reformat them…
I'm an idiot and I found all the presets. There's no simple way to put it… just dump the zip files into the VST zipbank folder and at the bottom of the instrument settings change the presets. I'm probably going to do my own YouTube video on this because the topic is poorly covered.
Thank u for this info king
Thanx for your work! very useful, I love that synth and am so happy it is still somehow working
I REALLY need help on this! I have no presets in here, I'm using LMMS and the only sound I get is "initial sound". I downloaded everything and put them in the folders for plugins, what is going on? The video of this VST sound great, but I'd love to be able to use it. Now, some of the instructions say to, download both 32 bit and 64 bit? Separating the 64 into the DAW plugins section, and the 32 bit into the Steinberg VSTplugins portion? Is this right? I also downloaded the 1,6000 sounds and threw it in my DAW plugins folder. HELP!
Es un sintetizador, tu haz tus propios sonido. Busca tutoriales de youtube, no es tan complicado

This a amazing synth. Fantastic VST.

Used to be on Mac High Sierra with Ableton 10 with Intel iCore 5.
Now on Mac Ventura with Ableton 11 and can't load the vst at all... "The Guard Dog" won't let me... Any new solution to this issueN

It's time to rewrite the GUI on this classic.
Agree, but I think the old yellowish design is intentional
(5 / 5)
Robím muziku a tento synth je proste TOP. Dokázal vždy doladiť to čo som potreboval. Moja hudba je na youtube kde ho môžete mnohokrát počuť. Ďakujem je to super !!!
Is it ok with Mac M1 ?
(5 / 5)
OH MY GOD NEIL CICIEREGA
ROFLMAO 16k presets! That's not enough. I created five different "random presets" programs in compiled BASIC. Although the presets created were meant to play several seconds with one key twitching the mod-wheel and breath MIDI CC's. Sorry I gotta have my edge, a famous baseball player had said, I'll say it too. No wait it *must* be more musical! Let me go see where I placed that Calc file by that Italian guy I downloaded many years back...

Extraordinary synth. :) ;)

The fact that this synth is free is just astounding. I have never played a real Nord Lead 2, but I can't imagine it sounding much better than this since this already sounds so damn good.
(5 / 5)
I had trouble with this one at first. I couldn't find the presets. (There is a comment below that explains how to get your DAW to locate them.) Once I did, WOW... I won't say that I need no other synth (I also use Dexed and Tal Noise Maker among others) but one could use this one exclusively and have a huge pallet of tones. It doesn't cause crashes and I've had no other hiccups (false triggering, etc.). Get this plugin.
Hey! I have YET to find a non-buggy version of x64 Synth1. Here's a tune I made nearly exclusively with Synth1 and its soundbanks. I love it. https://soundcloud.com/sodieum/july7inspo
(5 / 5)
One of my favorite synth. Have made about 13 banks for it. Can be found on kvraudio under lucknow13 -my username.
(5 / 5)
This is the Best VSTi Synthesizer in Existence! Everyone who claims otherwise has not really tried it. They're probably just diving through the initial presets thinking that gives them an overview of the capabilities. But actually touch the knobs and feel the quality of the filters and the workflow that this UI gives you. You'll be surprised countless times. Countless times! You can't count these times!
(3 / 5)
Downloaded all of the Analog synths here today and tried them all. I deleted most but this is one I kept. Giving it a 3 as there were much better sounding ones. But I might find a use for it so will keep for now.
(5 / 5)
Been using this plugin for about 6 months now, with the preset banks online this is an amazing plugin! Honestly surprised this is free
(4 / 5)
Nice warm sound, the presets are quite varied and usefull.
(2 / 5)
I find this very uninspiring. Some cool sounds but it really does sound like an old VST to me. I think there are much better sounding free synths.
Hm, either these presets are or the synth itself.. is tuned to 432 Hz, which is nice for once. Anyway, I am back to it again after making a circle thru U-He stuff and some AIR.. Or maybe theres 7000 plugs too much on my old pc
432hz is better for your brain c:
(1 / 5)
1 trillion dumb named presets but they all sound quite the same yet everyone here is praising it. Ever heard a great track consisting of such sounds? Me neither. Quality before quantity. Synth1 itself: Average at best, like most free VST's.
Ever tried going beyond presets - i.e. beyond lazy?
@Not biased - You are surely Deaf !!
Have you thought about having your ears operated on ?
Not biased? More like not musical. Making a great synthesizer is not always just about making the most complex sounds with wavetable synthesis and formant filters. Sometimes it's just about having a reliable source of default waveforms and a high-quality and well-defined filter-section, parameters with perfect ranges for a good workflow and stuff like that. ichiro toda is a genius in that regard but you can only see that if you go beyond the presets and stop being pretentious.
Hey there, I'm using FL 20 on Mac and I'm having a bit of trouble getting the vst to load when I open it in my DAW. Anyone have any ideas on why it might not be working? Thanks in advance.
It needs to be installed with the whole folder it comes with, which is quite unusual for a plugin nowadays
Welcome to FL Studio. I just demoed it and trashed it. Horrible and glitchy. Better off with Studio One.

¡El mejor de todos!
Hi, I downloaded the synth1 plugin from above, and want to use it with REAPER, but I'm completely lost as to how to get reaper to recognize and use the downloaded plugin. Can anyone help?
You first need to create a track, then you need to add midi onto the track by selecting Add virtual instrument to track or something like it. Then after you played some notes either with a midi controller or by adding them yourself on the midi screen, you'll hear it in your virtual instrument. Synth1 got a very tiny interface compared to some others like Tyrell N6 (resolution even scalable with a right click!) but it's still one of the best synth you can have as it's super versatile. I'm glad I found these presets as it's quite intimidating for a noob such as myself.
Does anyone know where to download the Free SYNTH1 Depeche Mode Soundbank? I'd greatly appreciate it if you can let me know. my e-mail is: mlk232018@gmail.com Thanks in advance.
Did you manage to to find the right folder?

Hey everyone ! Any fix about synth1 blank GUI on Mac OS BigSur ?
having the same issue!
Same for awhile now. AU version won't load at all, and VST version the gui just won't show up sometimes i can get it to make some sounds but it is pretty unstable. Bummer, i a while ago i used it in some songs and i'm still working on them. Using Waveform11 (tracktion) and MacOS 10.15.7 Catalina.
It looks as though the AU unit has pretty much reached the end of life - at least if you're using any up to date version of macOS. I'm on 10.15.7 (Catalina) and can confirm that while the AU is successfully validated using the Plugin Manager for MainStage 3, the plugin window is blank. That said, I can confirm that the VST2 version does work under Ableton Live 10, FL Studio 20, and Bitwig Studio 3. You might need to do the Security Dance to get the plugin past the guard dogs: % sudo /usr/sbin/spctl --master-disable (install and load plugin into your DAW of choice...) % sudo /usr/sbin/spctl --master-enable . Good luck!
same, blank for me

Anyone knows how to add the 16k Synth1 Presets ? I am a Mac user and can't find the procedure to see it in the presets selection. Thanks for the help
It's not too difficult: - copy all of the zip preset files to whatever directory you wish - launch Synth1
- near the bottom, slightly to the right, you'll see a button labeled "OPT" - click on it - that brings up the Options dialog: you'll see an option right in the middle labeled "ExtBank (zip) Folder" with a text window and a "Browse" button - click on the "Browse" button, select the folder with the zip preset files, and click "Open". You should be all set. If you put all 16K+ presets in that folder, be prepared to wait a bit for Synth1 to finish scanning through them. Then... enjoy! Good luck!
Thanks... Was pulling my hair out trying to locate the presets...
It seems Synth1 is not compatible with macOS Big Sur. Content of its windows is completely white.
I'm having trouble opening the plugin on my Mac
Anyone know if this compatible with Apple Mac Big Sur and latest GarageBand version?
Same issue. It just won't come up at all

Hi, I use Logic Pro x and FL Studio. On FL this plugin work correctly but it doesn't work on Logic Pro. On Logic when I chose this plugin he appear empty, I can't see the principal panel of plugin. Please help me and Thanks
Hi, I tried to install the AU version (.component file), but it won't load in Logic Pro X (The plug-in cannot be opened because developer cannot be verified...). I'm using logic pro x on Mac OS Bigsur, does anyone have a solution for this?
Hello. You need to unzip with winzip or an app that keep info about the plugin.
The Unarchiver doesn't keep it. Unfortunetley, this is not the only problem with BigSur : The GUI interface is blank (FL Studio) and I have no solution yet to use Synth1.
Same issue. Get it loaded in Logic Pro X but blank plugin.
Yep it is also not working in Reason!!!! :(....
(5 / 5)
Very good vst ,analog style.. perfect for my compositions.. thank you
(5 / 5)
It looks like crap, but... a really PERFECT VSTi !!! It sounds really good (perfect VA sound) ! It is super user friendly ! It is not using much computer resource. And, there is a titanesque amount of user presets that can be found on the web, some of wich are really good !
No, it doesn't (look like crap), even less with the red skin.
I think what Bob meant to say is that when you first look at it you don't immediatly assume how awesome its workflow is. I think I can confirm that. It's been long since I used it the first time but I think I felt like that as well
Plugin worked great on my previous 32-Bit machine, but ever since I upgraded it always crashes and won't run properly. My DAW is Ableton (64).
Download the x64 version of it, Ableton 10 does not recognize x32 plugins. Works perfect for me
(5 / 5)
Synth1 is really good for analogue sounds. And there are millions of presets online. Super intuitive, fun to use. Also the abillity to change size or color is super great. Also it's very lightweighted. Only downside for me is that it looks ugly.
Am I the only one that this plugin couldn't be recognized by the latest version of logic pro X....? Plz help
Yeah aint working for me in logic x.5 either. Can get it to load up fine in ableton on the same macbook pro though
How did you get to load it up on ableton?
(5 / 5)
What a great free synth machine. Everyone should get it. Probably the most famous free synth. SYNTH1. Many banks are available on KVRaudio.
PRA QUEM ABRE O PLUGIN E ESTA COM DIFICULDADES AO ACHAR OS PRESETS, SEGUE A DICA: AO ABRIR APERTE A OPÇÃO 'OPT' ACHE A PASTA EM QUE VOCE EXTRAIU TODOS OS ARQUIVOS, SELECIONE UMA SOUND BANK ESPECIFICA E CLIQUE EM OK.
PRONTO, APRECIE
(5 / 5)
Whoa, this is awesome!!
(4 / 5)
This really lives up to the hype. Powerful and versatile. If this were the only synth you owned, you would be okay. So all the banks on KVR take up a lot of space and need to be downloaded separately - I found this link where this guy cleaned up everything and put ALL AVAILABLE BANKS into one zip that you can access at any time from the external zip option within this vst. It is great - 14000 presets in 173 banks in a compact size, includes a randomizer tool for Windows users, check it out - https://veryrandomstreams.blogspot.com/2012/03/over-10000-free-patchessounds-for-free.html
HI. I AM RECENTLY HAD DOWNLOADED THE SYNTH1 VST 64 BITS, AND I BEGUN THE PROCESS OF INSTALATION. BUT THE ISSUE BEGINS WHEN I OPEN THE VST ON ABLETON 9.7.5 64 BITS, AND THE VST APPEARS WHITOUT A PRESET SOUND, EVEN WHEN I LOADED THE COMPLETE INFORMATION FROM THE FOLDER VST, INCLUDING THE FACTORY BANKS. IF ANYONE CAN HELPS ME, WHIT AN ADVICE. I WILL BE SOW GRATEFUL..
Damn, been there. Either files are missing for the vst, try rei-installing. which you probably have done. or download from another site. That's all i got. Better than not replying i hope
Had the same issue. Just copy all the files into your VST folder and run initsettings.exe from within that folder. Worked for me!
(5 / 5)
Hey, I'm new to using third party plug-ins and MIDI in general, could anyone possibly help me with how to add presets for this great VST? I work out of Logic Pro X and have managed to get it working I'd just love to play around with some of the presets but can't seem to figure it out! Thank You.
(5 / 5)
super flexible and crazy good sounds!
Can anyone please help me use these presets. How to install them.
All preset at once: paste preset .zip file as it is to Synth1-113beta3zipbank ifolder, ex:Synth1-113beta3zipbankyourpreset.zip, open synth1 in daw, your daw may not respond, be patient, it will take same time as if you are extracting yourpreset.zip file from yourself in file explorer. wait.., its done. Note: if you extract yourpreset.zip manually it will take some time, so daw will also take same time, be patient.
Can you be more precise please ? Thanks for replying
(5 / 5)
An absolute must-have for anyone interested in synth-based music, but without enough money to afford any high-end gear. Amazing piece of software right here.
Hi Alex, Hey is there a way to use Synth 1 and midi map the parameters? I use LIVE and I want to use my keyboard controller knobs to assign parameters. Thank you!
Hi,David. I easily controlling the Synth1 via Roland JP-8000 (so many knobs and faders for it!). There is no problem to assign MIDI CCs and create MIDI map file. Push OPT -> MIDI -> assign knobs/faders -> save the file
The "25,000 presets" contains a lot of duplicates. I went through the whole thing and reduced it to 15,971 unique presets.
Thanks a lot for the job, link above is updated.
That was some job, thankyou gridsleep
(5 / 5)
Depuis que je l'ai découvert, c'est de loin celui que je préfère dans ma bibliothèque. Facile à utiliser et très réactif, en plus j'aime sa configuration.
For anyone who is able to get Synth1 to recognise files in the .zip folder, try running the "initsettings" exe in the plugin folder and it should work
Please advise how to run initsettings exe
how do you load the preset sounds? I downloaded everything, but only the synth itself shows up in my presonus studio one 4.....no presets. Help??
Insane synth. Very Very good. Please needs update with a mod and pitch wheel knob for mouse tweaking and setting up.
(5 / 5)
The sound is great - drives me crazy that all the knobs go from 0 to 127 instead of in ms, dB, etc. Nonetheless, this is great!
Excellent Synth Lots Of Presets and I learned sound design using this synth
Only free synth with its (awesomely verstile) distortion before the delay and chorus. And only free synth with tone and eq after the distortion (to get rid of harsh or boom). Also saturation of the filter per voice is just too awesome.
(5 / 5)
Simply the king of the free soft synths.
This is incredible, if this was RTAS i would happily pay decent money for it.
This synthesizer is lonely top. There are countless free Sound Banks on the internet for that. The best synthesizer I've ever had.
(5 / 5)
This is my go-to soft synth. But I find the patch selector hard to use, so I wrote a VST plugin to make it easier. Here's a video of it working: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBF74Cg6E_s
Hi Neutrino. Sky, your 'Synth1 Librarian' is a real gem -- Thank you for making it available for free! It is so much easier now to find the right Synth1 preset. Why not make it available here on VST4FREE? Also, I like the idea of creating Librarians for other synths. For example, a .syx manager for Dexed would be great.
Hey, I know this post and the synth are very old but I'll try my luck. I installed synth1 and neutrino librarian for it. They all work fine with the existing zipbanks. However I want to create and save my own presets too. Problem is synth1 gives an error when I click and try to save a preset to any location. I tried to create a 10th bank folder with 128 factory presets in it; so, that I can change them and overwrite on those but it didn't work either. Is there a way to do this on a Win10 64 bit PC with Reaper as the DAW.
Neutrino Sky Editor massively expands the Utility of this great synth. I'd go as far as to say that it Makes this synth for me.
(5 / 5)
This is easily one of the best synth VSTs. I've used it in almost every song I've made since 2013 and still find ways to make interesting new sounds with it.
(5 / 5)
Such Plug-Ins are very difficult to get. I tried Sylenth demo but I think that Synth1 beats it in a very hard way.
(5 / 5)
This is one bad-ass synth at one bad-ass price! Do I need say more!
(5 / 5)
One of the best Synth VST around there! Just wonder what preset has the most high quality instruments of the available presets collection archive. There are so many, what makes it hard guessing what are the best. Any suggestions of experienced Synth1 users. My composition style is: Pop Rock/ and Ballads!
For pop/rock/ballads this VST is probably not the best around although for sure it can provide excellent pads, bass & solo synths. But don't look for perfect (electric) pianos' and organs. Anyway, preset collections called Thanks MS. Ichiro are excellent, for many styles.
Thank you sir for sharing the info ! I'm about to discover the wonders of the MS. Ichiro preset collection !
Classic. Regarding the much faster pc's that exist now since it's first release, a 3rd osc, a greater choice of wavetypes and extended arpeggiator would keep it up with recent releases. Great addition to the now also free Firebird.
(5 / 5)
Good classic and free soft-synth, Thanx
This synthesizer can do everything that is in the free synthesizers section :) And many of those that are paid, it will win))
i am using audition cs6. Copied .dll into vst3 folder and re scanned through fx manager.. but not working .. can anybody solve?
Every sound in each sound bank seems to be the same... why is this??
Read the manual it explains what to do
(5 / 5)
The KING of synths.
(5 / 5)
Amazing simple vst, I always use it in my tracks.
The best free software synth ever created. A must-have for both beginners and advanced musicians/producers.
World best synth plugin love this vst... high quality sound, low cpu...
The gem in the arsenal of free VST plugins. Modest in appearance, a sonic delight in performance, formidable range of patches available.
(5 / 5)
BEST PLUGIN, I LIKE IT WHERY MUCH.
(5 / 5)
Cant believe it is for free.
(5 / 5)
YOU NEED THIS SYNTH IN YOUR LIFE. I can't say it any plainer than that.
(5 / 5)
This synthesizer can do it all. No need to download gigabytes of others. It surpasses many paid. In my arsenal is ideal! :)
(5 / 5)
An essential instrument of all my songs.
Anyone know how to install it on the macbook pro?
There are several issues with installing the AU. Authentification fails every start. No problem if i use the vst on my macbook pro
(5 / 5)
After trying (and buying) for a year a lot of analog vintage synth VSTi emulations I was almost to give it up until a friend of mine introduced to Synth 1, now I am using VSTi for almost everything. Just love the flexibility and the sound of this synth and I can believe is free (sincerely I would pay for it!). The interface could be a little simple and rough but the sound is awesome. I hope Ichiro Toda keeps improving and updating this synth, it is really worth! Highly recommendable!
(5 / 5)
One of the best soft synths.
(5 / 5)
SIMPLEMENTE LO MAXIMO!!!.
(5 / 5)
Maybe the best free synth in the world- versatile.
(5 / 5)
Diesen Freesyhnt ist der Beste des 21. Jahrhunderts Kein anderes VST-Pluck kann ihn kaum einer das Wasser reichen.
(5 / 5)
Probably the best free synth. Continue evolution!
(5 / 5)
Synth classic. You'll certainly never be short of sounds!
(5 / 5)
El mejor q he visto, muy confiable y funcional.
(4 / 5)
One of best freeware vst instruments. But need a update.
(5 / 5)
With a little practice you can make Nintendo like sounds out of this thing. I LOVE IT!
(5 / 5)
Best free synth. Extremely flexible and CPU friendly at full sound.
I do not know how to add sound banks to synth1 with .sy1 files?
This is very aggravating. It seems that all of the presets were made in other DAWs on Windows, so none of the support I've found helps. In fact, this comment is the top on the list of results when I search for ".sy1" "logic pro" in Google, about 10 years after you posted it.
(5 / 5)
One of a kind and a super classic ! No words can describe how pure and amazing this is after all these years in front ....
(5 / 5)
Old. Simple. Millions of presets available. Sounds really good. Reminds me of my Roland SH-32. Oatmeal will always be my favorite though.
(5 / 5)
Very CPU friendly and logically tweakable and automatable synth plugin. This plugin is great! A must-have. Used in lots of my older projects, now I'm using a paid registered Sylenth1.
(0 / 5)
Wouldn't get this again if you paid me!
(5 / 5)
EL MEJOR... si seores, un buen sinte para aquellos que saben apreciar la simplesa y la efectividad.
(5 / 5)
You want to know what it sounds like? What it can do? Listen to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwBpImrtkQg . All made with synth1 (except for piano and drums). No presets used only my own creations.
(5 / 5)
Funky. Simple. User friendly. What a blessing. How do you color the synth?
(5 / 5)
The best free synth ever!!! The most sounds ever: more than 80 banks available. The most awesome and wide ranging sounds I LOVE it!!!!
(5 / 5)
Awesome VST, great sound banks that can tackle more than just the techno genres.
(5 / 5)
Fat and juicy, oozing with great sounds und it's fabulously free.
(5 / 5)
ONE OF THE BEST VST SYNTH EVER !! the note i see right now is 4.8(?WTF !!?) but if there is one synth wich deserve a 5 stars this is it!
(5 / 5)
What can I say about my favourite and probably most famous FREE VST synth?
I heard about this in 2002, and since then I used it in literally hundreds of arrangements/songs/sketches and must say: you can find a insane number of uses of this synth in the context of your music... What selled me at first was the absurdly low CPU usage and the impressive amount of great professional sounding presets. Don't let the horrible default bank let you down... Look for Nolwenn, Goldbank, Kayoti, Ouroboros bank3 to name a few great ones.(NOTE: Preset management may seem confusing at first, but once you get it, you can load up to 1280 sounds at once !!!) Synth1 is suited not only Electronica/Dance stuff, but can find a place in many other genres. Programming is not hard if you have some basic knowledge, and features are good and can deliver a vast range of different sounds. No docs unfortunately and GUI it's not the greatest, but how many free synths allow you to change GUI color and its size up to 200%? A MUST-HAVE SYNTH!
(5 / 5)
beyond one of the greatest free synths ive played with and you can never go wrong with PRESETS!!!!!
(4 / 5)
Awesome vst! fat & dirty sound, super-easy to use, amazing wide range of sound. I score 4/5 (should be 5/5 but there is some crap noise on the a.d.1 effect that I don't like. Otherwise it's just... so perfect!)
(5 / 5)
I love this synth. Capable of producing some awesome dark patches.
(5 / 5)
Simply the best. The one i use the most.
(5 / 5)
Love the sounds the Synth1 makes. Highly recommended!
(5 / 5)
Best freebie synth I've found, capable of so many different sounds. It's my main go-to vst.
(5 / 5)
The first really impressive free VST i've heard. It's a must have, and you can find tons of presets for it also on the web.
(5 / 5)
More insanity. Dunno why you didnt sell this puppy - it is the NAZ. My MOST used device ever. And i coloured mine black and red so, get one and MODULATE THE SHIT OUT OF IT.
