Cherry Snare is a sampled acoustic snare drum.
This custom snare drum was hand crafted by Ebenor Percussion into cherry wood. This is a warm sounding 14x7 inches snare drum with a 1/2 inch thickness and a 45 degree chamfer, mounted with triple flange hoops dressed by a 2 plies coated drumhead.
It was recorded using 5 microphones (2 on top, 1 at the bottom and a stereo matched pair for the room sound), giving the possibility to mix the final sound from 4 channels. Top and bottom condenser mics were recorded through a tube preamp using NOS vintage 12AX7 tubes driven to a class A digital converter. Top dynamic mic and the stereo room condenser mics were picked up from a top notch soundcard's transistor preamps.
Each channel features a Punch knob which controls the sustain level set with a fix decay setting, this mimics what can be expected from a compressor or an expander to sculpt the transient sharpness. Release and Pan controls are also available on the 4 strips. The master section features a Velocity Dynamic knob to adjust the amplitude range delivered in function of the MIDI velocity.
A tuner is provided to pitch the snare drum up or down and a Vari-pitch (a LFO aplied to the pitch) can produce from very subtle to totally unrealistic pitch variations.

Sounds wonderful, very ringy and smooth snare!
It doesn't play for me D: I'm on a Lenovo Yoga, yes I did extract everything to my VST folder, it doesn't say "can't find instrument" it just acts like its playing but its silent
take the whole folder, whith the preset s, and the dll and put it in your vst folder, dont, entpack the library folder, I made these mistake too...it works!!
@Harry what is "entpack"
this crashes propellerhead reason on a mac.

I LOVE ringy snare drums a la early Bill Bruford. I Jack the top mics and decrease the bottom then combine this with the Snare from MT Power Drum Kit. The MT snare gives the body, the Cherry Snare the Over-ring. I put them on two separate tracks so I can control how much of each attribute you hear. For dynamic variations I can go in and delete or alter the velocity of one or the other on specific notes. Or in the case of the cherry, I can alter where the drum was struck. The ONLY reason it isn't a 5* is that when you save your configurations it doesn't save the pitch. But that is a minor annoyance.. Great plugin... THANKS !!!
That is exactly what I'm looking for - a snare to augment and/or replace the "wimpy" one in MTPower Drums (which I like enough that I donated, but that snare...) Thanks for the review, Joe!

If updating again I think it's great
Hi, i can't really exploit his use, because when i do a drum Layer, it occupies the note that plays the Kick... so when i play the Kick, plays the center Snare. Can you make a new version changing that?
If you're putting kick and snare on the same track, then you should try puting the snare on a separate track, so you can have full control over it. This way, when you put some EQ, compression or reverb, you can have it only on the snare, without affecting the kick. And vice versa.
any can help me.. where can i piut the mse of the cherry snare...cubase says that no found any instrument
So so so nice snare

I used this on my Albums, sounds great, not sure how much difference the timing knob makes, but the snare has a human quality too it. Only thing is the lack of samples for softer hits, it's either a smack, or a tap. 5/5 from me.

I don't know how it would sound in real project but from the demo it seems very nice!

This is a great VST, it sounds real, now I have to find better samples for the rest of my virtual drums, because they all sound fake compared to this snare. Great job, was worth the time to come back an find it again to comment. Oh yeah, 5 big bright golden stars
Where do I put the .mse file ?
Copy the extracted zip just like it is, the .mse file have to be in its own folder.
If you're making dub music, this is top kit. Just add a space echo and you're in scratch perry land.
Thats what I am looking for....... thank you my friend !

My love to this snare can only be compared to my love to the administration of this website.
This is super neat, great recording - thank you VST4FREE for your generosity! Hi-hats closed, open, pedal would be amazing!!

This is highly playable from the standpoint of triggering via electronic drum triggers. I set this up for my drummer using an alesis control pad and it was near impossible to make this sound fake. The only problem we ran into was that some of the round robin samples don't have proper fades on the end so there will be audio clicks as they end... found this with everything except for the stereo pair when the release settings were set above about 9 o'clock.
HI, thanks for your feedback. Didn't tried with a pad but it was done thinking about live playing, so thanks for the test ! Clicks are not in samples but may occurs depending the system. An update will come and hopefully will fix this issue...
Very nice plugin overall - it does have a bug in 32 bit reaper on my system though. If you move the tuning dial it will default back to the centre position when you hit play on the transport which means whatever tuning you have moved it to doesn't stick once you press play again.
The tuner uses the pitch bend midi CC, maybe you can setup reaper to not reset CC's at playback start ?
In Reapers preferences under MIDI Devices you have to untick 'Reset pitch' - works fine now :)
I have recorded pitch bend data on the appropriate midi track and channel but the tuning dial does not respond. The dial also does not reset to center on playback but when the file is closed and reopened.
Love this software
I'm new to daw recording. Where would I put this plugin in order to use it with my Cubase. Thanks
Extract the whole zip content in your vst plugin folder and it will work.

Seems to me just as good and much more friendly that some I would not afford to pay for, anyway :) I am very please to think VST4FREE may intend to give us more, but don't rush anything, or people will get spoiled :) Thank you very very much. Lov!
